Ann's world is not just a world, but the combination of two entire galaxies, our Milky Way and Andromeda. For reasons unknown, humanity has ceased to be as such, having already evolved and mutated so radically they can't be considered to be human by now; humans are considered a rarity, both exotic and expensive. Ann is quite likely the last human, who after suffering grievous injuries was put in suspended animation, only to be forgotten about entirely, until she was found by chance, drifting through space. Earth is no longer habitable, and the race that was once humanity has gone to join other civilizations that spawn thorough the galaxies.
